Great friendship - MERRY LOU and greyhound SIL, owner W.P. Scharroo, NL
The Merry Lou Miracle story: Merry Lou, daughter of my Belgium import Blackbird de la Mouche Noire and Aviaticus Tutti Frutti, has been living with my friends, the Schaaroo Family, in the Netherlands. One year ago she had a dangerous accident and broke her left front leg. Wim luckily found her after three hours, it was an open fracture and the vet was very concerned for the fact that the chance of infection were rather high due to the dirt and sand which had accumulated in the open wound. Wim was told that in case of an infection in this leg, it needed to be amputated. The surgery took four hours and the days and weeks after the operation were filled with fear and worries. Luckily Merry Lou has overcome this tragic accident and the following surgery well and has recovered now. One reason for her recovery is her mellow temperament - she needed to lay quietly for weeks since the fracture was fixed with a bandage only - not a cast. As time went by, she was under physical therapy, slowly gaining strength and putting more and more pressure on the healing leg. The goal was to make her a whippet who could move "normally", meaning going for daily walks, playing in the yard - we had no hopes whatsoever for her to ever be running on the track though. The miracle happened: she could play on the beach, could be exercised normally and in June 2007 she ran a short distance on the track. Happy end: on 29 July 2007 Merry Lou ran her first race in Lelystadt with keen competition and placed second in the tough final. After all the tragedy happened to this wonderfull little bitch, it is now a wonderful surprise and great joy for us. Thank you Marjan and Wim Schaaroo for taking such good care of this little girl, which has been rewarded accordingly !!! Merry Lou, go ahead like this.
On this occarsion we would also like to express our tremendous
gratitude and thankfulness to the knowledgeable veterinarian Dr.R.Zeegers,Dierenklinik,
"De Koersendijk" Nijverdal. who did the surgery on Merry Lou. Without his "magic touch" she
would have certainly ended up as a "couch potatoe" - now she can run and
race like a whippet should do ! Thank you Dr. Zeegers for your excellent
work, support and advice during this time of worries over Merry Lou .
